This time of year is what the wedding industry refers to as “booking season”.  You’ve seen all of the new sparkly rings pop up in your IG and FB feeds, I’m sure.  That means that all of those new brides are out looking for the perfect place to say their vows!

The more wedding venues I have the pleasure to shoot, the more I see how important it is for the wedding couple to have a clear idea of what they want for their wedding day, and what the expectations are from the venue.  Every venue is different, so it is important for you to ask specific questions when you are trying to find the perfect fit.  Don’t just assume anything!  Knowing the answers to these questions can help you to avoid any miscommunication and to have the wedding of your dreams!

I teamed up with one of my favorite upscale wedding venues and asked Kate Hopkins, the Senior Event Manager some popular venue-related questions:

  1. How far out do you suggest booking a wedding date? Hotels have stricter booking guidelines.  We can book holidays out 23 months and other dates 12- 15 months.  If the wedding couple is flexible with their date 9-12 months is usually enough time.  For those with specific needs, as far out as they can.
  1. Do you suggest having a wedding planner? Yes.  At least for the month of.  I don’t necessarily believe most people need full service, there are definitely those that benefit from it.  I don’t believe in day of service at all.
  1. What are some of your favorite “different” things you’ve seen couples do at their wedding?  This is hard because the first time I see something it’s cool, then I see it a bazillion times.  Some memorable things-  caricature artist, artist painting the first dance  a la minute, Indian Baraats can be very special-  elephants, helicopters, monster trucks.
  1. Do you require couples to use specific vendors? No If not, is there an advantage to using your preferred vendors? No, but you raise a good point-  I recently read the terms regarding renting the Maritime Museum in St Michael’s.  If you choose to use vendors other than their preferred vendors they charge you $2500.00-  clearly, there is an advantage to the Museum.
  1. Are there any restrictions on photography or videography? None other than the drone form.
  1. Is there a built in weather alternative to an outdoor ceremony should it be an issue? Yes.  We always have a backup plan.  If we don’t we won’t book an outdoor event
  1. How many weddings do you generally host per year? 60 ish
  1. What is your favorite part about working in the wedding industry? Selling the dream and then executing perfectly 🙂 Well, that may be a bit much –   It keeps me current, on my toes, I need to adjust constantly, and I like to make people happy!
