Usually one of the first questions I get from couples that book destination weddings is “how do we do an engagement session?” Sometimes it works out if I am based near the couple…we can do something close to home and then we will have two very distinct looks from the engagement and wedding images. But what if that doesn’t work, or what if you love your location so much you want to have more portraits of just the two of you there at the destination that will host your wedding? The good news is that I always arrive the day before any destination wedding because I refuse to let airlines/highway traffic get in my way and stress anyone out on a wedding day. That, of course, gives me the opportunity to offer my couples an evening engagement session the night before their wedding (or, shoot the rehearsal dinner!).
I arrived down in Hilton Head for Bethany & Ali’s wedding on a beautiful Friday afternoon and could not quite contain my excitement. ALL THOSE BEAUTIFUL TREES!!!! and…and…THAT MOSS! I took a look around the grounds of the Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort where we were staying and quickly scouted a few spots that grabbed my eye. We started with a few family shots to incorporate their adorable boy, and then got some couple time before they went out for dinner and drinks with many of their wedding guests. I can’t say enough about how much fun the weekend in Hilton Head was, and how warm and kind Bethany and Ali are. They make my job look easy 😉
