Kara and Nathan share a love for animals that brought them together. This helped them seal the deal! Nathan and I planned an outdoor surprise proposal with dogs to capture this bonding moment.
The Surprise
When Nathan contacted me about photographing his surprise proposal to Kara, we started with a completely blank slate. That is something that is so exciting for me! We came up with the perfect location, in this case, it was a field with water access. And then the plan. Nathan ordered the most adorable dog tags for their two furbabies. The plan was that Kara would read the tags and then turn around to find Nathan with the ring and big question.
Mother Nature
Well, mother nature decided to torture us a bit. The night we were supposed to meet for “family pictures” it was an overcast mess. The weather even called for thunderstorms threatening and rain sprinkles off and on. We (Nathan and I) were trying to make the decision…but Kara said: “what’s the rush, we can do it another day”. Welp. She had no clue!!! Poor Nathan had to wait another day. Luckily the weather worked out and we were going for try two.
Having a Story
For proposals, you always have to have a story as to why we are taking pictures (or you are in a bush popping out!). We had planned that these were family photos so of course the whole family came along. Both pups (were so well-behaved) and sweet little guy Kaleb was a camera charmer! I told Nathan that we would do the “question” pretty early on. So, that he could rest easier and then we’d get some nice smiles for the rest of the session for sure!
The pups came into the photo and Nathan told Kara to check out the collars…but she just wanted Nathan to LOOK AT THE CAMERA!!! It was such a cute moment when she finally looked down and realized what was happening! The surprise, delight, and emotion in her face and expressions were priceless. Everyone was overjoyed. We spent the rest of our time together chatting about how much planning went into pulling that off. We ended frolicking through the tall grasses 🙂 I can’t wait to capture Kara and Nathan’s wedding.
