When Maria and I first met, we talked about everything from family to life, kids and weddings (of course). We started planning her engagement session almost immediately because we were running out of green here in Charlotte as it was already into November. I remember it was the one thing Maria asked for. Lots of greenery and wide open spaces. I knew that Anne Springs Close Greenway would be the perfect spot for her engagement session with Sarantos. As long as we could find a big beautiful tree with the last possible green leaves in the city.
Mission Accomplished.
I love to work with my couples to come up with a location for their engagement session that fits their personalities, relationship and overall wedding. Maria and Sarantos are having a “big fat greek wedding” but they are wild and free spirits at heart. They wanted somewhere that they could explore together, somewhere that would have a feeling of being anywhere instead of a very specific somewhere. When I showed them some other pictures I’ve taken at the Greenway, and we discussed the many areas they have on property, we knew we had the perfect location.
Preparing for Winter Weather
So, just as a matter of full disclosure, these photos were taken in mid-December. Crazy, right? I know that we are often blessed with mild temperatures in the winter months here in the Carolinas, but there is just no way to plan for it. Maria was such a trooper. She didn’t care if it was 70 degrees of 40 (which it was) she was going to rock her outfits as if the weather was perfect. We did get very lucky and it was not too cold, but it was chilly enough that I was in a sweater. That is what you call determination.
Not only did Maria absolutely rock her style, she and Sarantos both were absolutely down for anything. We walked several miles on dirt roads, over a *very* shaky suspension bridge, ran into some rather frisky donkeys, and finally ran barefoot in a field. If I have any advice for an engagement session it is to just go with it. The pictures will ALWAYS show it when you are having fun!
Fall Winston-Salem Wedding
The wedding is coming up so soon and I just can’t wait to meet all of their friends and family, and to photograph all of the beautiful plans that Maria has told me so much about (and to share her bridal portraits!!!). I know there will be many more laughs and smiles for me to write about!
