Hi there! Welcome to the  journal about our lives, travels, fashion, and style. Stay a while and say hello!

Hi, I'm Amy.

One of the biggest headaches when planning a wedding is deciding on a dress for your ‘maids.  If you are a kind bride, you take into consideration the different body types and styles of the girls that will be standing up there next to you (and in all of your wedding pictures!!!).  However, you do have to keep in mind your own style and specifically your vision for how your wedding will look as a whole.   Needless to say, it can become very challenging very fast.

On the flip side of this, of course, you’ve got your bridesmaid’s wallets to consider.  I hate when I hear bridesmaids complaining about how much they “had” to spend on their dresses…only to shove them into the back of the closet never again to see the light of day.

As a wedding photographer (and former bride/bridesmaid) I see both sides of this little conundrum.  I want everyone to be happy and feel beautiful…the better your bridesmaids feel in the dresses the more beautiful they will look (and smile more!) in their photos which leads to a whole lotta gorgeousness for your album!  This is where the thrifty part of this email comes in.  Why make your friends spend hundreds on a gorgeous gown when they can RENT it!?!  You don’t want to go cheap or sacrifice your overall vision just to keep them happy…but you can have it both ways!  Have you heard of Rent The Runway?  GENIUS!

Okay, so, basically this company has thousands of designer gowns in stock in all sizes.  These are high dollar, extremely on trend items that are available to us little people for a minimal rental fee.  Sure, you don’t get to keep the dress…but do you really want/need to?  I have never worn a bridesmaid gown that I’ve purchased more than once.  That’s sort of expected, right?  But why spend a couple hundred dollars on something you don’t love?

Another great opportunity to rent instead of buy would be for your engagement session or rehearsal dinner!  How many hours of shopping and hunting the sale racks would you save?  You literally could wear a $800 designer outfit for less than $100!!!  And have pictures to prove it 😉

Rent The Runway carries sizes 0-22 so you have a good chance of being able to find your fit.  They even have an entire category devoted to Bridesmaids to make your search even less painful!  With most rentals being at or around $100, you are certain to be the popular bride on the block when you save that money AND make your girls look fabulous in the process.  You can even rent accessories!  I promise I’m not being paid or anything to rave about this…I am just so sad it wasn’t around for me when I was planning my wedding.  It is too good not to take advantage of!

Here are some of my favorites!

    What a great idea!

  2. Kate says:

I LOVE this idea! I’m a HUGE fan of anything designer, but my bridesmaids could never have afforded it and I wasn’t going to be the bridezilla that made them do it! This would have been an amazing option!!

  3. Michelle says:

Fantastic read! Thanks for the post – this is certainly "share" worthy.

  4. Super idea! Thanks for sharing!

  5. Rent the Runway is GREAT! I never thought of it for bridesmaids though. So smart!
