Sometimes we forget what a wedding is all about. We obsess over details, guest lists, flowers and sunshine…and forget to think about the reason for all of the fuss. As a wedding photographer I love the details, flowers and sunshine, of course, but I REALLY love a couple that is sincerely joyful just to be married. Forget all the rest, if you smile on your wedding day for no other reason…make it because you are GETTING MARRIED, and nothing else matters on that day.
Christin and Myron were without a doubt incredibly excited to say their vows and become husband and wife. I talked to Christin a few days before the wedding to nail down some timeline details, and we discussed the forecast, which called for 100% chance of rain. Normally this is where the bride starts to get anxious and rearrange portraits due to weather. Christin, however, cheerfully told me she had purchased a “really cute” pair of rain boots! We would carry on with their first look outside as planned…rain or shine. I was ecstatic! A little spring rain has never slowed me down and Christin and Myron were not going to let it affect their wedding day either.
We photographed Christin getting ready at The Westin in uptown Charlotte, and then went to meet Myron for the first look at Independence Park where the wedding would take place. They couldn’t keep their eyes off eachother. This, my friends, is real love.
The wedding ceremony proceeded under the misty skies…guests took cover under their umbrellas while Christin and Myron stood proudly to share their love. It was a small intimate affair, but the love was off the charts. I was so honored to be there to photograph these precious memories.
Christin and Myron were a breath of fresh air from the minute I met them. They were extremely passionate about planning an authentic, simple celebration centered around their union, without losing their minds in the process. They hand made almost every beautiful detail including the bride’s jewelry, the ceremony signs, the hanging paper lanterns, and the invitation suite was even hand-drawn and painted by the groom (who is a graphic designer!). They truly just wanted to be together and the weather could not keep them apart. Through the rain, umbrellas and tears…they swore their love for eachother in front of an intimate family gathering in an Uptown Charlotte public park, they did not have a bridal party…it really was just about them 🙂 The reception featured a food truck serving organic and mostly locally sourced items, and cupcakes by The Blushing Bakeshop. Family toasted the couple and danced to tunes played on iphones…with smiles and many many laughs.
This wedding was a joy to photograph, the rich details almost all held special meaning to the couple, who took great care in crafty many of those themselves. They featured stories of their dates, funny memories the two shared on the tables of the park pavilion, as well as photos of the two of them TOGETHER making the special diy projects for the wedding day. I’ve never felt so welcome and honored to be apart of such a truly authentic and joyous day, even in the rain!
