Hi there! Welcome to the  journal about our lives, travels, fashion, and style. Stay a while and say hello!

Hi, I'm Amy.

While I adore weddings, engagement sessions are some of my favorite moments as a photographer. I get to know my clients more before their big day and this is often one of the first boxes they are checking off for wedding planning. Your engagement photo session is really a time to celebrate being a future spouse while capturing memories to cherish.

These are also the photos that will probably be on your save the dates, invitations, and possibly wedding decor. So, you are going to want to feel your best. I am here as a photographer sharing all of the tips and tricks you need to know to not only feel confident but have fun during your engagement photos. Let’s begin!

1. Be Honest with Your Photographer

You will be spending a lot of time with your photographer, so you will want to be comfortable around them! This all starts with being honest. Tell them exactly what you envision for your engagement session. You can go over poses beforehand that you like and dislike. Some engagement photo ideas are stunning but may not be your preference. Share inspiration you love from their Instagram or website for them to get an idea of your taste!

If you have already booked with them, this means you love your photographer’s personal artistry. They will be able to choose poses, lighting, and angles that match you as a client while still staying true to their signature style. Your engagement session is all a mock run for the wedding day. You can get comfortable capturing photos on this day so your wedding is a breeze! I love spending extra time chatting with my clients before meeting them in person so their engagement session feels natural and true to their personalities.

2. Get Your Hair & Makeup Done

Why not move forward with more wedding planning ‘to dos’ while pampering yourself? Many couples will schedule their hair and makeup trial on the same day as their engagement session. Once you have your wedding look finalized, your beauty vendor will often offer to tweak the look for your engagement photos afterward. Speak with this vendor and your wedding planner about the fees or packages required to do so but this is definitely worth it! A professional hair and makeup artist will know what translates well for photos. Additionally, you won’t have to stress about getting ready for the day.

3. Wear Something Comfortable

Wear something you feel comfortable in! There are so many cute outfits for every season and place. I recommend 2-5 outfits depending on the length of your photo session. Gather ideas on Pinterest and have all of your outfits planned beforehand! On the day of, all you will need to do is drive to your location.

4. Choose Your Location Wisely

While we are talking about it, select a location that you love as a couple! If the location is inspiring, you are going to be so much more comfortable. Choose a place that compliments the season of your wedding and your design. If it is a tropical summer wedding, maybe you adventure through a botanical garden! When you are confident that your engagement photos will go along seamlessly with your wedding plans and are having fun in the location, this will translate in the final gallery.

5. Make it Personal!

An engagement session isn’t robotic and all business! Plan a romantic outdoor picnic or fun activity for your photographer to capture. These candid moments make some of the best engagement photos. When your engagement session is exciting and memorable, you will be feeling your best!
